How fast is the WiFi Internet Connection?

In theory, the two each multiplexed T1 lines which provide our Internet connection are 1.5 megabytes {one and a half million bytes} each (3 mb total)(as opposed to using a 56 kilobyte {56 thousand bytes} modem) and the network we provide, could come close to that speed when distributed. The reality however, is quite different. Many factors can affect WiFi data rates. Most are environmental.

Network related performance issues:

• The number of users connected
• The type of data being conveyed (i.e. video, audio chat, large file transfers, virus issues, denial of service (DOS) attacks, etc)

Environmental related performance issues:

• Extreme precipitation
• Poor line of sight transmission
• Outside the optimum radiation pattern of the Access Point antenna
• Too much distance between Access Point and Client Premise Equipment
• Reflective properties of structure the antenna is mounted on (i.e. metal building or roof)
