NOTE - This document assumes you have a recent operating system, VISTA (any version) and Windows XP (Home or Professional). This document shows Windows XP with Service Pack 3.
If you are using older equipment, that is a bridge and an external antenna, then you have to configure your Local Area Connection for a "Manual IP Address". Please follow these instructions. However, if you have added a router into your local area network and it is providing IP addressing, then you do not need to follow these instructions.
1) Click on "Start" button (lower left corner)
2) Select "Control Panels"
3) Double click on "Network Connections"
4) Select "Local Area Connection" -
Right click on it
5) Select Properties from the menu and you
will see the following window
6) This is the Local Area Connection window
7) Deselect "Client for
Microsoft Networks" and "File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft
Networks" unless you are file sharing or printer sharing.
8) Deselect
the circled items 
9) Select "Show icon in notification area when connected". 
10) Highlight- Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click on the "Properties" button.
11) The Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties window will
appear. 
12) Fill in the designated (YOUR)
IP address as provided by Internet Extension. The Subnet Mask will be 255.255.255.0.
The Gateway will be 192.168.100.1, 192.168.120.1, 192.168.140.1 or 192.168.160.1.
The DNS Server will be 208.67.222.222 or 208.67.220.220.
13) These DNS/Name Servers
are provided by Open DNS and provide greater efficiency and management.
14) Click OK and close the Network
related windows.
15) In the Control Panels window,
double click on the Windows Firewall (providing Windows XP Service Pack 2
or Service Pack 3 has been installed).
16) The following window will open and insure it is configured as the image below.
17) You can and should use the
Norton Anti Virus version 2009 (preferred) and Superantispyware to aid in
detection and removal of Adware and Spyware.

19) Superantispyware must be updated regularly with new definitions. Run Superantispyware at least once per week unless you have the "real time" version that you paid for.
20) Do not use any other anti-spyware applications other than Norton Anti Virus and Superantispyware. Use the Add-Remove control panel to remove any others.
