How can I tell if my Internet connection is OK?

There is a UNIX nettool called "ping" that you can use from either a Macintosh or Windows computer. The "ping" tool sends some network packets to a specified network destination and then captures the out and back time in milliseconds. Usually, if you simply "ping" the gateway, 67.59.83.1, that will suffice in letting you know that you are connected to the network. Sometimes, our network may be OK, but the rest of the Internet may be having a problem. You can try "pinging" yahoo.com or any other known server on the Internet to see what it's status is.

On a Windows XP computer, click on the START button in the lower left corner.
Then select Run.
When the Run window opens, type into the field, cmd.
Then hit the Return key. This should bring up a "Command Window" which is easily recognized by the black background and white letters of text.
At the prompt, where the cursor should be flashing, type "ping 67.59.83.1", then hit return.

It should send and recieve 4 packets, giving you the results. Those results should average around (less than or equal to) 3ms to 8ms. If it states the there was 100% packet loss, call us. If it is simply slow (10-100 ms), there may be other network activity causing the performance delay. Most often, virus infected machines on the network, "peer to peer" clients, video downloads or streaming, etc can cause slow performace.

On a Mac OS X computer, in the Finder, select the Go menu. Then, select the Applications Directory. Next, select the Utilities Directory inside Applications.
Launch, the Network Utility.
Click on the PING tab.
Type 67.59.83.1 in the field "Please enter the network address to ping", then click on the Ping button.

If you selected "send 10 pings", OK, if you selected unlimited, stop it after about 10 pings. Those results should average around (less than or equal to) 3ms to 8ms. If it states the there was 100% packet loss, call us. If it is simply slow (10-100 ms), there may be other network activity causing the performance delay.

For both Macintosh and Windows, if you are still experiencing an issue, try pinging yahoo.com and see what the results are. Those are usually at around 60ms to 140ms. If you are still unable to reach an address, then contact us.

Most often, simply restarting your computer or restarting the bridge will restore your network performance.
